EPQ

Introduction to Course

An Extended Project Qualification gives students the freedom to study the topics that they’re interested in depth, but also be able to demonstrate and quantify skills such as organisation, evaluating and independence in a academic way.

To complete the course, students will:

  • Choose an area of interest.
  • Draft a title and aims of the project for formal approval by the centre.
  • Plan, research and carry out the project.
  • Deliver a presentation to a non-specialist audience.
  • Provide evidence of all stages of project development and production for assessment in the form of a Production Log.

The skills they develop can enhance performance in other subjects, whilst also developing the core skills needed for independent learning. These skills are transferable and support successful progression to university and into careers.

Students can choose their own topic and develop it independently, with the support and guidance of a supervisor. Project qualifications fit flexibly into the school and home learning curriculum and can be alongside A Levels.

Study Support

Students will have 2 period of contact time a week with the EPQ supervisor who will be supporting and facilitating the project, and its progression through the course. Support is also available through the use of Microsoft TEAMS with resources, support materials, exemplars and 1-2-1 tutorials.

Students will also have ‘taught’ lessons in which required skills such as referencing, essay construction and evaluating sources will be explored as a group to aid and develop independent projects and their completion.
