Student Leadership 2019/2020

The Student Leadership team are highly valued within the student population and get the opportunity to take part in various areas and projects across the Academy. There are numerous students involved with student leadership, all playing a very important part to ensure the student voice is heard.

The Student Union Presidents and the Head Team in Year 11 meet with our Head Teacher Mr. Price on a monthly basis to discuss any ideas/concerns. This time is valued greatly, with many points being reviewed and worked on to ensure excellent communication between staff and students is upheld.

Student Union Post 16

In Post 16 we have a head team of students called the Student Union. These students are from both Year 12 and Year 13, they work within different areas to generate ideas for initiatives within Post 16 and the whole school community. The Year 13 team are made up of two student presidents who are the face of our Academy and provide management and support to the rest of the team.

This year’s student presidents are Arvani Gill and Paavan Sehmar.

Also in Year 13 there are 4 Vice Presidents, each responsible for a different area:

  • VP Education and Careers- Elizabeth White
  • VP Welfare- Esha Khan
  • VP Community and Charity- Louis Elsmore
  • VP Activities- Sophie Haney and Aaron Shelton

The Year 12 team are then split between the 4 strands, helping in those respective areas.

Year 11 Head Team

In Year 11 we have a head team, made up of 15 Year 11 students. These students are involved in representing George Salter at events, supporting other students in other leadership roles, being involved with charities and fundraising around the school and being a role model to other students. This year the Year 11 head team are also responsible for leading and supporting the Year 10 prefects in their respective house teams.

Year 10 Prefects

Our Year 10 prefects are involved with many aspects of the Academy. They work as a Year 10 team, targeting areas that the students would like to focus on, as well as working with the Year 11 head prefects on different house projects throughout the year. The Year 10 prefects this year are particularly looking to run some projects targeting first aid skills, recycling and mental health.

Student Leaders KS3

In each form room across the school we have 2 student leaders. These representatives get lots of ideas from their fellow students in their form about potential issues they feel are important to address in the Academy. They then take these issues to a fortnightly meeting with other representatives in their year group. Our year group teams are doing a fantastic job of coming up with really good ideas for the Academy!

Whole Academy Leaders

In each year group there are two representatives for the whole year. Following on from their year team meetings they go on to a whole academy meeting. In this meeting they meet with the head teacher to discuss issues that have been highlighted at the year group meetings. The student leaders have also been involved in consulting on the behaviour policy operating in the Academy, as well as the safeguarding referrals system.

Subject Ambassadors

Across the school we have students who act as subject ambassadors. These students support members of staff in departments across the school, support their fellow students and get involved in open evenings and other events advertising subjects around the school. PE ambassadors are even involved in running their extra-curricular programme!
