School Meals

Catering

At George Salter Academy, our highly trained and experienced Catering Manager and his dedicated team take pride in providing high‑quality, affordable school meals. Our friendly, multi‑skilled staff are committed to delivering excellent food and service every day, creating a welcoming dining experience that supports the well-being of both students and staff.

We offer a wide variety of nutritionally balanced meals designed to suit different tastes, routines and dietary needs:

  • A new daily menu is now available, offering a choice of a meat/fish or vegetarian main course, alongside a convenient grab‑and‑go alternative for students who prefer something quicker or handheld.
  • Our sandwich bar provides a broad selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, baguettes, wraps and pizzas, giving students plenty of choice throughout the week.
  • Breakfast is served during morning break, with comforting favourites such as toast, cheese or jam on toast, bacon or sausage sandwiches and warm croissants to help students start the day well.

We are committed to using fresh, high‑quality ingredients from trusted suppliers, ensuring every meal is both nutritious and appealing. A menu is available below to give an overview of the dishes we serve. We currently operate a three‑week rotational menu, beginning with Week One, designed to offer variety and encourage students to explore a wide range of flavours. This rotation includes dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world, helping students discover new foods while maintaining a strong focus on balanced nutrition. Students from any year group who bring a packed lunch are welcome to eat in the West/Dining Hall from the start of lunchtime, ensuring everyone has a comfortable and inclusive space to enjoy their meal.

Reminder – sandwiches are now available to purchase at break time.

Theme Days

As a catering team, we run “theme days” where we cook various dishes from around the world to encourage the students to try something new. We also try to incorporate memorable dates throughout the year to use these for inspiration for different themes.

Cashless Catering System

Our Cashless Catering System allows quick and easy payment for all school meals and reduces long queues at the tills. Money is loaded onto students’ accounts using their fingerprints at the machines located around the Academy. Once students have selected their meal or snack from the dining rooms, their fingerprint is scanned and the cost of the items is deducted from their account.
