Changes to the School Day

14 July 2026
Dear Parent/Carer,
Re: Changes to the Timetable from September 2026
As we look ahead to the new academic year, I am writing to inform you of an important change to the structure of our school day and timetable that will take effect from September 2026.
Following a review of our curriculum provision, George Salter Academy will move to a two-week timetable, operating as Week A and Week B, alongside a revised school day consisting of five one-hour lessons each day. This change will provide greater flexibility within the curriculum, enable subjects to be taught more effectively over time and ensure that students experience a balanced and ambitious programme of study.
What is a two-week timetable?
A two-week timetable operates across a fortnight rather than repeating every week. This means that your child’s lessons in Week A may not be exactly the same as those in Week B. The timetable then repeats every two weeks.
Students will receive their individual timetables before the start of term and staff will support them in becoming familiar with the new structure during the first weeks of September.
Structure of the School Day
From September 2026, the school day will be organised as follows:
| Time | Activity |
| 08.40-09.00 | Form Time |
| 09.00-10.00 | Period 1 |
| 10.00-11:00 | Period 2 |
| 11:00-11:20 | Break |
| 11.20-12.20 | Period 3 |
| 12.20-13:20 | Period 4 |
| 13:20 – 14:10 | Lunch |
| 14:10-15.10 | Period 5 |
Arrival at School
All students should be on site by 8:30am. Please note that the school gates will close at 8:38am each day. All students must be on site before this time to avoid receiving a late mark.
We ask that you discuss these changes with your child over the summer holiday to help them prepare for the new timetable structure and ensure they arrive punctually each day.
We are confident that these changes will support the ongoing development of our curriculum and provide the best possible learning experience for all students.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to welcoming students back in September for another successful year at George Salter Academy.
Yours faithfully,

Gurpreet Uppal – Associate Vice Principal
