Accounting

GCE AS and A Level

By studying A Level Accounting, students will delve into a world of accounting. Students will learn the accounting language and puzzle together transactions to complete double entry bookkeeping and understand how these basics lead to the creation of income statements and balance sheets. Students will develop a passion and an eagerness to learn as they solve accounting problems and embark upon more technical parts of accounting, including incomplete records and partnership accounts.

Progression routes from this course

An A Level in Accounting can lead to a career in the field of financial services, accountancy, bookkeeping, account management, business, teaching and many other job role opportunities. Moreover, an Accounting A Level will provide the fundamental knowledge and understanding to study accountancy at any university.

AS modules/units

    Paper 1 will examine topic areas such as:
  • Double Entry Book Keeping
  • Verification of Accounting Records
  • Preparation of Final Accounts
  • Budgeting

AS assessment

    Paper 1 – 3 hours; Weighting – 100% of total AS level marks

    Each paper will include:
  • Section A – Multiple choice questions, worth 25 marks.
  • Section B – Two structured questions, worth 55 marks.
  • Section C – Two extended answer questions, worth 40 marks.

 

A2 modules/units

    Paper 1 will examine topic areas such as:
  • Double Entry Book Keeping
  • Verification of Accounting Records
  • Preparation of Final Accounts
  • Incomplete Records

  • Paper 2 will examine topic areas such as:
  • Types of Business Organisations
  • Costings
  • Interpretations of Final Accounts
  • Ethical Considerations

A2 assessment

    Paper 1 – 3 hours; Weighting – 50% of total A level marks
    Paper 2 – 3 hours; Weighting – 50% of total A level marks

    Each paper will include:
  • Section A – Multiple choice questions, worth 30 marks.
  • Section B – Two structured questions, worth 40 marks.
  • Section C – Two extended answer questions, worth 50 marks.
