Performing Arts (Musical Theatre)

BTEC Level 3, National Extended Diploma (equivalent to three A Levels)

This two year course is an exciting and innovative qualification that allows students to progress and strengthen skills in Drama, Music and Dance. It is the ideal qualification for students who have talents within more than one performing arts area. The new qualification offers a mixture of internally and externally assessed units which will allow students to have an engaging and stimulating introduction to the study of the sector.

Entry requirements

Minimum of a grade D in GCSE Drama, Music or Dance or a distinction in Level 2 BTEC Performing Arts

Progression routes from this course

This is the ideal qualification for students wishing to continue on to further education at universities and within performing arts schools. However, in addition, this qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop all-round performance skills and transferable skills for any employment industry.

Year 1 Units

    As some units are optional, teachers may wish to alter the curriculum plan to suit students who opt for the course.

Year 1 Assessment

  • 1 and 3: Externally assessed through set performance task
  • 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7: Internally assessed through coursework and
    performance

  • 2: Internally assessed through performance
  • 4, 5 and 6: Internally assessed through coursework and performance
